Survival Not Yet A Done Doyle
Kevin Doyle admits Saturday's crucial win at
But the club record signing also acknowledges that there is still much work to be done.
Wolves may be three points clear of the relegation zone with nine games remaining, but there are sure to be plenty of twists and turns ahead, not to mention a local derby with an Aston Villa team, unbeaten in the league in 2010, next up on Saturday (kick off 12.45pm).
"It was nice to come away with a win on Saturday - it's been a few games since we did," Doyle said of the 2-0 victory.
"We knew it was a big game but even if we'd lost we would not have been out of contention.
"And although we won obviously we're still not clear of it.
"It just moves us three points closer to a happy end to the season.
"It also gives us some confidence with nine games left.
"Another three or four wins would push us towards safety but everyone around us will be thinking the same thing.
"It doesn't rule
"But if we'd have been beaten it would have been tough.
"It would have made it difficult to raise ourselves again but we'd have done it.
"It's obviously a lot sweeter that we won and we've now got a big local derby which is one to look forward to."
Ultimately Saturday's performance at Turf Moor - as Wolves became only the fourth Barclays Premier League team to win there this season - proved an all-round solid and professional display with little sign of any tension given the occasion.
Indeed the only tension came via a predictable late onslaught from the hosts after Steven Thompson pulled a goal back 17 minutes from time.
"All of the pre-match hype didn't get to us," added Doyle.
"We've had similar situations all season from October onwards against teams all around us which have been billed as six pointers.
"You just get used to them.
"In any game when you are 2-0 up it's still on a knife-edge.
"Because if you concede a goal the opposition get their tails up.
"We knew the game was never over and it showed when they got their goal and were throwing stuff into the box and putting pressure on.
"But we held out."
Another welcome addition to Saturday's proceedings was a spot of good fortune courtesy of an unfortunate deflection off Clarke Carlisle diverting Adlene Guedioura's shot into the bottom corner.
But Doyle believes that was just one piece of luck back in the credit column given some unfortunate incidents in recent weeks.
"We've been saying we were due some good luck and got it with the deflection for the second goal," he said.
"Things like that have gone against us previously this season but it went with us on Saturday."
